How to Find Diameter of a Circle if its Area is given

QUESTION: The area of a circle is 616 cm². What is its diameter?

SOLUTION:

Area of a circle = \frac{\pi (d^2)}{4}

where d is the diameter of a circle.

Here, area of a circle is 616 cm².

Put value in the formula

Area of a circle = \frac{\pi (d^2)}{4}

616 = \frac{\pi (d^2)}{4}

Put value of π = 3.143

616 = \frac{3.143 (d^2)}{4}

616 = (0.78575) d ²

\frac{616}{0.78575} = d ²

784 = d ²

Take square root on both sides of equal sign, we get

d = ±28

As length cannot be negative so d = 28

Hence if area of a circle is 616 cm², then its diameter is 28 cm.
