of

Ratio and Proportion

QUESTION: A model village is built to scale. It has a scale of 1:26. A road has a real-life length of 1.95 km. What is the length of the road in the model village in m?

SOLUTION:

As we
know,

1 km
= 1000 m

So,

1.95
km = 1.95 × 1000 m = 1950 m

It is
given that a model village is built to scale of 1:26

Let `a` be the length of the road in the model village for a road whose real-life length is 1.95km or 1950m

Then

1 :
26 :: `a` : 1950

`frac1{26}=frac
a{1950}`

By
cross multiplication

`a`×26
= 1×1950

`a` = `frac{1950}{26}` = 75 m

Thus,
if the length of the road in real life is 1.95 km

then
its length in the model village is 75 m
