What are Abundant Numbers, Deficient Numbers and Perfect Numbers

ABUNDANT NUMBER:

Apart from itself, if the sum of all the factors of a given number is greater than the given number, then the given number is called an abundant number.

For example:

All the factors of 12 are

1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12

Now add the factors other than 12

1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 6 = 16

As 16 is greater than 12, so 12 is an abundant number.

DEFICIENT NUMBER: Apart from itself, if the sum of all the factors of a given number is less than the given number, then the given number is called a deficient number. For example:All the factors of 10 are1, 2, 5, 10Now add the factors other than 101 + 2 + 5 = 8As 8 is less than 10, so 10 is a deficient number. PERFECT NUMBER: Apart from itself, if the sum of all the factors of a given number is equal to the given number, then the given number is called a perfect number. For example:All the factors of 6 are1, 2, 3, 6Now add the factors other than 61 + 2 + 3 = 6As the sum of factors of 6, other than 6 itself, is equal to 6, so 6 is a perfect number. RELATED POST:
